Pediatric Dental Crowns in San Antonio

Baby (primary) teeth are placeholders for the adult teeth, ensuring the adult teeth fit and grow in where they belong. When a primary tooth is decayed or damaged, it may be necessary to put a crown on the tooth to keep it in place until the adult tooth comes through. Depending on the location of the tooth (and your insurance benefits), two types of crowns are available:

  • Stainless steel. The back teeth need extra protection from chewing. Stainless steel crowns are stronger than tooth-colored crowns and normally last until the teeth naturally fall out.
  • Esthetic. For most children, the front teeth can be covered with a tooth-colored stainless steel crown or a zirconia crown. Zirconia is a very strong and durable medical grade material that provides the appearance and translucency of a natural tooth.

We also perform tooth extractions, place Maryland bridges, and offer teeth whitening (for teenage patients). Taking great care of your child’s teeth now will give them the best chance for healthy adult teeth. Dr. Mani can help you protect your child’s bright smile.

THE MORE YOU KNOW
How many teeth does a child have?

Children have 20 primary or baby teeth and 32 adult teeth. Sometimes children have missing or extra teeth. This is a trait that runs in families. In addition, some individuals do not have all of their third molars (wisdom teeth).
